Our brain is a weird little complicated thing. When it comes to those things we want to remember, they slowly slip out of our brains. Let me use my engineering exams as a classic example. How much ever I tried to pull those formulas out from my brain, that I had learnt by heart, they never seemed to come out. I even tried pulling my hair continuously to see if it created a ripple effect inside my brain. No it didn't. It just turned out to be a rather painful disappointment. On the other hand, there are some of those incidents that the brain stores in one of its small cells. It is like that balance in your account that is less than the minimum ATM withdrawal limit. So it will always remain there and you won't be able to take it out of your brain bank until you close the account. (I still have Rs. 28 in my IDBI bank account that I haven't operated since 2003. I am sure it would have grown so much in the last 15 years that I can afford a masala dosa with it) So somewhere i...

A Lovely Dinner Date

Time setting: Year 2002 - A cold November evening Scene setting: Edinburgh Business School Hostel, Scotland So I did my my Masters in Business in Edinburgh Business School - On Campus. (No I am not putting stuff from my CV here) The hostel set up that we had was basically as follows. Every PG student gets a room with bath attached. A room just enough for your basic needs. Had a student's table, had a basic wardrobe and a bed that had spring mattress. And yes a thick duvet/blanket that would keep you warm. It also had a heater that would not go higher than a pre-determined value. I always felt that the people who had designed the system had worked on complex regression analysis and formulas to figure out the best fit of the warmth that the combination of the heating system + the blanket would be able to achieve. If a worldwide poll was conducted to understand the best years of one's life, it wouldn't come as a surprise to anyone if the poll results favored the option "The college days were the best days of my life". I do not know about you, but I would have definitely voted for college as the best days of my life. My college life in Govt College of Engineering, Kannur, had plenty of wonderful incidents that I would love to write about. The friends that I made, the arguments we had, the cooperative store, the canteen, the sports day, the hostel where i spent a lot of time (in spite of being a day scholar), the college day...... Oh so many little incidents that are worth a few words. The college functions like the college day and fine arts days normally started in the late afternoon and went on until 3 am - 4 am.
